Wheelchair Hire

Friend has Muscular Dystrophy, is in a wheelchair and would like to swim with me. I live near a great pool and I’d like him to come but his wife is his PCA and, frankly, she needs a break. Also, she doesn’t like swimming. Is there a reasonably-priced service featuring qualified attendants here who could be contracted for this purpose? Gosh knows, I’m not strong enough to lift him, etc. Any ideas? Also, alas, money is an issue.

I play country bluegrass, country and cajun fiddle. People who hear me say I’m really good, I have a really great style. I have rock star status with women in the 65 to 95 year old age range. I have people tell me all the time that certain bluegrass bands who don’t have fiddle players need a good fiddle player. I’ve even had people tell me in front of the band leader "You guys sure need a good fiddle player like this guy and point to me." These bands will never ask me to play with them and other bands that are starting up won’t ask or consider me. They will hire people who are classically trained and do not play with the same style as me and are not as versatile as me. I’m over weight and use a wheelchair. I feel that is what is keeping me from getting asked to play in bands. My question is, Do you think these bands are passing me by because they don’t think i can get on stages with them because you very seldom find accessible stages? There are other fiddlers with disabilities like Michael Cleveland who is a little overweight and blind. He is a better fiddle player than me, but there is only one Michael Cleveland. I’m not comparing my fiddling abilities to him, but I play a lot better than several average size fiddlers without disabilities who have band recognition. Anyone have any ideas how to approach these bands without fiddlers?

About a year ago I posted an ad on the Internet seeking English students to teach. A Mother saw my ad and ask me to come to her home to teach her daughter. The daughter had been in a special needs class and was assessed as Attention Deficit Disorder.The Mother was taking her out of school and homeschooling her. I tested the child and WOW was she bad in English and inconsistent with her ideas.The Mother and I sat down and decided to order some curriculums from the Homeschooling website and books and start a program for her at home 3 days a week. I agreed to bring a contract for the Mother to sign once I wrote it up after taking notes of what the Mother wanted me to do. I discussed the contents of the contract with the Mother for 6 hours.( she denies this happened). She signed the contract and it was witnessed by the Grandmother and then left for Russia for 1 month and returned the end of August 2008. In September 2008 I went to work at their home. The child was sooooooo bad to teach…fidgeting and distracted and constantly say"I’m confused. I don’t understand etc etc". In November of 2008 , after I set -up the homeschooling and it was running correctly…The Mother told me that it was my last day and left me on the street. I had some books of her’s and i told her that she was not getting the books back until she returned some of my personal possessions in her house. SHe told me that "if I as much as touched her family this little bit ( pointing to her thumb tip) I would be sorry. I told her it was my right to seek legal counsel and I would.
In Jan 2009, I went to a paralegal who told me that the contract was good and I could take it to small claims court. From Jan to March 2009 we worked on the details of the claim and in April 2009 we sent the claim to the Mother’s house. She got a "lady she knew who worked in a payday loan office to write up her defense" and claimed various things against me. The court set up a Settlement Conference meeting for June 2009. The Mother asked for an adjournment.
In July 2009….July 28, 2009 we went to the conference. The Mother in the meantime on July 23, 2009, hired a BIG NAME LAWYER TO REPRESENT HER IN SMALL CLAIMS COURT AND ISSUED A LETTER TO MY PARALEGAL INFORMING HIM THAT BOTH MYSELF AND THE PARALEGAL WOULD BE SUE IN SUPREME COURT …. a lawsuit would be taken out and an injunction would be made against me for harassing and threathening the defendant on the phone over the last few months and have me declaredDANGEROUS AND NUTS AND TRAMATIZING THE 12 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER AND THE LAW SUIT WOULD BE FOR 100′S OF THOUSANDS OF $$ CAN.
While at the conference meeting the Mother told the judge that I had suggested that her daughter do volunteer work for men in wheelchairs with postate cancer. The child was dramatized and has not recovered from my suggestion. I never said anything of the sort. TheMother also claims that i tried to convert her daughter to Buddhism while teaching her . I am not Buddhist and the story goes on with the Mother trying to defend herself in many ways. The judge declared my contract legal and binding. The Mother got angry and told the lawyer to create some threat. So the lawyer told my Lawyer she was going to seek an injunction against me and sue me for bigger things than this claim.
In the end, the Mother agreed to pay me and settle with me for a small amount of money and I would leave the case alone. I agreed.
The Mother told the judge that her complete defense was based upon what her 12 year old daughter was telling her and she would put her daughter on trial to defend her case. The judge told her that that was not suitable . The Mother was going to use her daughter to win a case for her. The daughter is 12 year sold so she makes up stories to get her way. The Mother has difficulty with the daughter and has to take her out of regular school and homeschool her because she is so snobbish and so arrogant about having money etc.
My question is this ……….." An injuction ??? What for ??? Suing my lawyer also …what for???? It was a simple contract law , small claims court issue and it escalated into a "Supreme Court lawsuit , why????
I won a small settlement.The Mother was going to take it to Supreme court on the bases that she received calls from me and also I told her daughter to volunteer for men in wheelchairs that had postate cancer and "so called tramatized the daughter" and that I should be in criminal court not small claims court and she would develop the case with a very expensive and powerful lawyer and sue my paralegal for gettting invovled in Family Law which he has no jurisdication to practise .

Im 18 and just graduated high school. i also have alot of health issues such as i have use breathing equipment and a motorized wheelchair. i am also legally blind. i live in pennsylvania. i have been into punk rock ever since i bought my first CD at the age of ten. the CD was Americana by The Offspring. i started going to the shows at the age of fifteen. i am seriously thinking about working in the punk rock music field. punk rock is my life.

due to damaged concrete at a hotel 6 months ago.
One leg was badly sprang. The other broken down my leg and then into a "Y" on my ankle. I had to be in a wheelchair for 2 months. As well as bed rest for those two month so that the injury would not end up worse.
My legs did not heal correctly. I now have two different sized feet. Due to tissue and bone redistribution.
My legs ache all the time. I now walk with a cane.
This accident happened in another state. So I got to drive for 2 days like this coming back home.
Took 5 days to see a doctor here. I feel like I have gone to hell and back, then back for more, and now I am just permentately there.
I hired a lawyer the day after the accident. Which was also the day we left to head home.
I am just wanting to know, will this ever feel like its over??
I am so bitter over this. I cant accept my legs wont be the same. I hate being disabled now.
My attorney is working out a settlement now. But, my fear is it wont be enough to make up for all the pain.
Not being able to care for my baby. Not being able to be the wife and mother I was before.
Or even the same person.
I dont want to end up screwed.
So when it does come time for the settlement offer, what would be reasonable for someone to exspect?

I saw this great movie a few years ago, and now I’m trying to find out its name. The genre is problably drama/action but I’m not sure. It takes place in the near future and resolves around an adopted guy who has this dream about becoming an astronaut. However, he dosn’t have the correct genetical criterias needed to become one. At first, he takes on a job as a garbage man at the space station, just to get as close to his dream as possible, and then I don’t remember everything … but he meets a guy who decides to help him to get into the astronaut program at the space station, by letting him use his identity. I think this new character was meant to became an astronaut but broke his legs or something serious (he uses a wheelchair in the movie). Meanwhile, the main characters half-brother (which he has always competed with) proceeds to become a detective. When the brothers were young, they used to always swim across a lake to see who were the strongest)
Everyday is a struggle for the main character, as he every morning puts on lenses with his friends colour, shaves off all hair and does everything in his power to resemble his appearence. Everything seems to be going well though, he even falls in love with a girl at the astronaut program. Until one day when everything collapses, beacause the security finds some hair from him, and they scan it and see that it doesn’t match any member of the program. After that, the main character finds himself surrounded by scanning devices every day at the station, which would reveal his secret the second they scanned his eyes. Also, the police hires the best detective in the country to find this imposter and capture him. This is where his brother comes into the picture.

Eventually, the main character defeats his older brother, and proceeds as one of the best from his program, which means he will join the next spaceship. After years of hard work and against all odds, the main character is finally ready to board the ship, but as giant crowds wave them off and the airport, the guard in the doorway takes up his scanner to scan all members once more before take-off. I have been at my job for over 3 years. For the last year and a half, my boss has made my life a living hell. She was forcing her religion on me and saying that people with my beliefs were ruining the world (yes, I have the email to prove it) and basically verbally harassing me about various things to the point of tears every day. Another co-worker and I decided to hire an attorney, because she was doing the same to him. However, before that could happen, my boss put me on a task that is not in my job description and I severely injured my back. The day that I got hurt, while I was sitting in a wheelchair waiting to go to the hospital, she told me that I was injured because I am a "dumb fat**s", with a witness present. I was out of work for six months and I am still being treated. I called in my union rep and he said that she would have to write me an apology letter (wow, big deal) which she never did. I have placed numerous calls to the rep and get nowhere. In any case, I want to file a lawsuit against my company, but I know that I will be fired for it, as Pennsylvania is an "at-will" employer. I have custody of my younger brother and cannot afford to be jobless. I have been searching for jobs and applying, but there isn’t much in my field and I am trying to finish school. My questions are: do I have a good enough case to file a lawsuit? And if I file a lawsuit, and they fire me, will I be able to collect unemployment until I find a job? Thank you!

Currently live in apartment where the maintenance issues are handled by the owners. My hubby and I are a year out from having enough money to put a down payment on a home for purchase.

Pre-existing situation:
Hubby is 100% disabled, wheelchair dependent. He will go with me anywhere. We will purchase a motorized wheelchair/cart for him to get about. He can not drive a regular car; physically he is too limited for that and his meds make him dangerous from falling asleep.

Option OUT: Regular home in the suburbs. I’d have to maintain some degree of maintenance to suit city and/or hoa codes. Haven’t the energy nor finances to do so.

Option #1: Live in a condo/townhome. HOA fees would cover outside maintenance, landscaping, sometimes water & trash. Fees can be high (run over 0/month) We would be close to city amenities, doctors, entertainment, groceries, transportation.

Option #2: My heart is in the country. We both love the country. Would try to have land for beauty and to keep horses for therapy needs. Have experience with horses; not new issue. Plus is no hoa or restrictions of how property maintained. Would still have to hire someone to tractor the grass. Maintenance with country property does involve septic tank, animal control, maintaining fencing. Additional cementing of walkways would be needed so that hubby can get around on property. Further from doctors, but have reliable vehicle and good job.

Option #3: Go ahead and get the in-town housing, but also try and squeeze in some way of purchasing land to develop later. I’m 52 yrs old now, and expect to not retire until 67 yrs old or so. Hubby is 10 yrs younger than I, but his health issues (prior major stroke, he is a hemi-plegic) make him "older" to some degree.

Option #4: Have a friend who builds houses, I recently found out. Should I approach him about building us a duplex, whereby we can rent out the other side to help subsidize our mortgage? This is a long shot. I’ve just RECENTLY gotten reacquainted myself with Chris and his wife. I went to high school with his wife.

What suggestions that I have not considered have you thought about? What has worked for you, family member or friend? Our income is very modest (in fact, in our county, we are considered as poor, but not poor enough for subsidizing by government entities; so we are between a rock and a hard place).

Our company has been told we are not diverse enough, but we are located in a largely white area, so it’s hard to diversify by hiring ethnic people. So we are going to look for some disabled employees. Which disabilities are the least troublesome to accommodate? No way are we going to braille everything, and reworking the back of the office to fit a wheelchair is way too expensive. Retarded people are probably trainable for some things we do, but no one wants to be in charge of them. We’re not daycare teachers.

We were thinking a deaf person might be able to work well in our office, as we have loads of filing positions that don’t require much personal interaction.

Any advice?

Does anyone know of a beach cottage with wheelchair access that we can hire for a holiday? My wife, who is now permanently in a wheelchair, cannot get out much and I would love to take her to a holiday home where she could sit a look at the sea/beach.

We are staying at Docks on Goodwin and need to find a wheelchair nearby. It would be used for pushing my sister while shopping/sightseeing.

So i went to walmart last week for an interview, and they liked me so much they gave me the second interview, now they want me to come back tuesday to sign the drug test and background check forms.

so here’s the deal…sadly….

about 3 months ago, i did marijuna (i’ve only done it like 3 times) and i went to bestbuy. um, i was so baked at best buy, i tried to shoplift a game….so…. i was then charged for retail theft, and then possession because they found weed in my car. I will never smoke weed again nor will i ever go to bestbuy.

i have a court date on wednesday for these two misdemeanors, and hopefully i can beg mercy enough for those two counts to disappear, or at least be reduced. [i'm 18 and i'm in college so maybe i can convince the judge that i've still got my life and career ahead of me...i have nothing else on my record except like two speeding tickets]

Here’s what’s happening, i have to sign the drug test and background check forms on tuesday at wal-mart. The next day (wednesday) , i have my court thing..

(i know i’m going to pass the drug test cuz i haven’t smoked since the incident, which was like 3 months beforehand.)

my questions are:

1. Do they do the background checks the day of me signing the form? or do they just put it in a file bin with other employees that are getting hired and run all the checks a few weeks later?

2. I know they check for Felonies, but i did not commit any felonies, nor was i ‘convicted’ of anything. the possession and retail theft were misdemeanors. Do they check for misdemeanors too?

3. Should i just roll with it on tuesday, and sign the two forms, or should i tell the wal-mart manager that i commited these two misdemeanors?

my mom said that i shouldn’t tell the manager cuz at the time i filled out the application i’m not fully convicted cuz my court date is on wednesday, so when i said i wasn’t convicted on the application that i’m being truthfull…

I have a great dane mixed w/ st bernard dog, Tiny (i call him that anyway) and he’s been indoors all his life..however he recently began urinating on the floor. i had to move him outdoors..i hated it! i even hired a trainer. for a whole week i tried re-potty training him..but it didn’t work. he’s still not trained. honestly i tried a LOT – but anyway, i put him outside in the backyard, shelter from rain, a taxi big enough for him to turn around in but not to big, and fresh food & water (food is protected from rain) and this is how much I play w/ him:

My schedule changed around a bit, so I can spend more time w/ him
I get up at 7 AM, feed and water all my pets, play w/ my indoor pets for awhile, and then at about 7:30 I let the dog inside and let him run around and etc…and I watch him carefully. Then when I have to take him back outside at 8:00 when I eat breakfast, I play with him for awhile. Then I go and eat breakfast, and then play fetch outside for awhile, and give him some excersize. Then I leave at 10 for work. And then when I get home for lunch at 1:30 I bring him in and let him stay in until 2:00 when I leave. Then it’s the longest stretch – from 2 – 5 and at five I only have like twenty minutes to walk him, and after the short walk w/ him and my other big dog, I go visit a friend who’s in a wheelchair and needs help. Then in about 1 hour, I go hang out w/ my other coworker for awhile. We just talk and you know, yhata, yhata. But, then, at 7:30 when I get home, I let him in until 9:00 and then he goes back out for the night. I feel so bad on Saturdays, when I’m home all day (Saturday=my lazy day LOL) so I let him in all day–and he stays the night w/ us. Well, he’s been acting strange lately.. He hated my other pets! The pet’s he’s been with for how many years…and he’s never shown anger or aggression toward before. The only two he doesn’t hate, is me (o’ course) and my other big dog, Nemo (a sheepdog mix)

I’m thinking he’s lonely? But he gets a lot of attention…right? And mostly all the time he’s indoors when I’m home. I’m considering putting Nemo outside w/ him…is that smart? Then neither of them would be lonely. I know that asking questions like this on Y!A is kinda lame, but I’m desperate for opinions lol. My friends just say, “I donno I just keep my dogs indoors – if they pee I either get rid of them or keep ‘em outside….” and they don’t ‘get it’… but I’m hoping some of you will. Is that mean to keep Nemo outside too? Or will he like it b/c they’re both out there? Here’s the freaky thing: My dog’s brother, who was in his litter, is at the shelter! He’s been outside all his life, and loves other dogs. I took my dog 2 see him ONCE and they absolutely loved each other! Plus they’re brothers, lol… but I don’t know if it would be smart to get another pet..?

So I’m not sure how smart it’d be to get another after these. What do you all think? I’m not to experienced with outdoor pets b/c I try to keep all mine indoors. Any suggestions on what I could be doing wrong?
BTW: he doesn’t like other people either – even though everyday I have a variety of people over, and let him play with them…and I let him interact w/ other pets too. Really, he’s spoiled more than the other pets!!!!! Lol…even gets a better bed!

Okay, I am going to make this perfectly clear, hes a total crack head.
Years back he tried robbing a liquir store, well bad idea cuss he got shot and that paralized his legs.So now hes in a wheelchair.Well anyways, long story short, he does drugs constantly, parties constantly, makes so much noise all the time, ugh its so annoying.

It will be 2 in the morning, and youll hear drunk crack heads beating at his door, yelling curse words very loudly.We’re guessing its because it was bad drug deals or something.

We have called the police, many, and I mean MANY times, but they say they can not do anything because of his disability or something.One of my friends suggested its because the cops need him, because his a snitch.So he tells the cops about other drug dealers he actually knows, and they get more bussness by throwing them in jail.So they don’t want to throw him in jail.

I FINALLY found a job, in fact I told my boss up front that I had cancer and I have been told its most likely gone but I do have regular doc appts. to attend and theres a slight chance of surgery after all is said and done. He was a great guy, he actually was very sympathetic and he liked me so he hired me, health problems and all. Anyways, I didn’t want to get too personal in detail about the possible surgery (hysterectomy) and now I’ve been reading it takes 6 weeks to recover. Well, being a brand new job I won’t qualify for FLMA nor can I afford it. The job is all a desk job, I could literally wheel a wheelchair behind the desk and do easy light work all day. The job is 25 hours a week for now but more as time goes on.

Do you think its possible for me to work 5 days 5 hours per day beginning about 2 weeks after a hysterectomy? It would be done with the Di Vinci robot and done laproscopically with very tiny incisions in the abdomen.

I don’t see how its gonna make a difference if I’m in pain at work or at home, and I really need to keep this job. Its tough out there, I’ve been job searching for months and this is the first decent thing to come my way. It pays well and its low stress. And it will be full time in the future, when the economy gets better. Its only 25+ hours now because of the economy.

Do you think I can pull this off if I end up needing surgery? I absolutely would have to be back to work in 2 weeks, theres no way I can afford more.
According to my doc, I won’t have the slicing and dicing of abdominal muscles that usually happens, because they use this high tech robot thing and I will only have 5 incisions in a rainbow type pattern going above my belly button on my abdomen. Each incision will be less than 1 inch long. I just turned 28, I am on the thinner side, I exercise, so I hope I’m gonna feel well enough to keep my new job. FMLA requires a certain length of time and hours on the job before you’re covered :/ I was shocked to find that out also. Thanks to you both. You’re both very helpful.
Also theres a pretty good chance I may not need a hysterectomy anyways I am just preparing for the next few weeks to come and getting things in line just in case.
Oh and the menopause thing…already supposedly happened because I had radiation and chemo which they said would 100% for sure put me in menopause. Its been 3 months since treatment and I have no symptoms but they gave me BCPs to replace some of the hormones lost from it.

Instead of using their "powers" to, say, rescue children being held captive by pedophiles, they apply their abilities to making TV shows like The Ghost Whisperer and Medium.

The biggest challenge to national security, by definition, is that there is no way to distinguish threats from non-threats, passengers from terrorists, false-positives from positives. Airport security must thoroughly screen every single passenger, from the wheelchair-bound grandmother to the harried businessman to the nose-picking toddler, because everyone must be suspect; anyone could be a potential threat. If what they say is true—if these people have the powers they claim, why are 99.99% of innocent airline passengers subjected to invasive screening, delays, and hassles, when a psychic should be able to identify the terrorists and direct the security resources toward those people?

If psychics can do what they claim, why aren’t they hired by the TSA or airport security to identify the terrorists?
